Santa Letter 2009

Last years letter to Santa include the unforgettable Willie the Riding Pig while this years letter is all about the Pogo Stick and Unicycle. We are just waiting for Sid to finish up her picture for Santa and then we will mail it and go visit Santa at the Members only Christmas Party at the Science and Tech Museum tomorrow night. So here is what Sid is requesting this year in her letter:

Dear Santa,

Please may you get me a pogo stick for Christmas and new my little ponies and a little pony house. I would like the little baby in the carrier and the baby in the car seat and the baby in the bike seat with helmet. My favorite is the Park Tower Garage, it would be nice please. When I'm 16 please get me a unicycle for next Christmas. I love you, I hope you bring all my wishes come true. I'm not naughty, I am just a regular girl who is nice.

The Birthday Girl

Thursday morning our little girl woke up to her fourth birthday. She was so excited to be four and celebrated with mom, dad, Nan Nan who dropped by with cake and gifts and special phone calls from friends and family. On Sunday we had the "big" party at the Splash pool and had a really great time. Everything ran smoothly and we got to swim for 3 hours after an hour of pizza, cake and presents. We were so happy to have some friends and family there celebrating with us.

Sid was so excited when she woke up Sunday. We arrived at the pool about 20 minutes early and Sid started running around the table shouting I am FOUR! I am FOUR! While holding up her four little fingers. She was in absolute bliss with the promise of a party.

Once back home Sid hadn't even taken her coat and boots off before she had her calico critters open. She had to get more bunnies to play recital.

Then is was break time to play her new Dora game on the Wii
After registering her new webkinz and putting Tulip to bed (online) it was time for Sid and the real Tulip to head to bed. It was an awesome day. Thank you to all our friends and family who made it so memorable and special for us.

The next morning started off with the need to play her new Hullabaloo game from Toby and then she dressed herself and was very proud of the combination.

After gymnastics we spent the afternoon outside playing in the sun. Sid took Groovy for a walk around the yard all by herself for the very first time. Not sure Groovy was very impressed with the idea but she tolerated it.

Sid received a really cool Make Your Own Lip Balm kit from her friend Celia. She wanted to make it so badly and it took all of about half an hour so we did that after the dog walk. Sid read the label on the Bees Wax container and said "Mommy did this bees wax come from bees ears?"

After dinner and a bath we bundled up and went and laid out in the back yard to see if we could catch any of the Leonids leonid.arc.nasa.gov . Sadly the peak of the meteor shower was at 4:00am so we only saw one shooting star around 7:30 pm. It was still really fun and Daddy came home and was able to point out many constellations to Sid. She was really interested until our feet got cold then it was time to head in.

Reptiles

We met our friends Kim and Toby at Little Ray's Reptile Zoo for an amazing morning of learning and new experiences. Last year Little Ray's came to Sidney's preschool and Sid was really into it so I knew she would love the chance to see the variety of animals they rescue. What surprised me was that we were allowed to hold many of the reptiles and feeds some too. No one else was there so we had the entire zoo to ourselves and could ask the zookeeper so many questions. It was 10.00 a piece to get in but all the money raised goes to support the care of all the animals they rescue. Most of the reptiles have been given up by the owners because they just got too big.

This is a soft shelled spiny turtle. It's body looks a lot like a stingray. I had never seen anything like this!

This was like a traffic accident to me. I couldn't look away but was slightly horrified, however, Sid thought it was awesome and loved watching the mouse go all the way down.

This was so cool. We got to watch her feed the "man eating" Nile Crocodiles. They really do hunt humans and in the wild kill about 3 humans a day. We were told that they are very smart and will stalk a human for 3 or 4 days to learn their routines and then strike when the human least expects it. When the zookeeper feeds these guys she has to be really careful because they try to trick her into putting the meat lower so they can leap up and get a hold of the feeders hand. These guys can leap straight up!

Sid had a little stuffed monkey attached to her jeans and she took it off and showed it to the marmosets and they were mesmerized by the toy. They were so cute and tiny but looked like they could cause a lot of trouble!

We can't wait to go back. On the way home Sid was telling me she thought that since it was a zoo that we would have to walk around outside and it had snowed so she was really happy the reptiles were all inside and nice and warm.

This week our baby turns 4. How did it happen? Every day is so special and filled with smiles. She has such a great sense of humour now and keeps us giggling all day. The other night I asked her how many toes she had and she without missing a beat she answered "All of them!". We started talking about her letter to Santa and the number one item she wants for Christmas from Santa is a Unicycle..... no I am not joking and I have no idea why she wants a unicycle so badly! While four years have already passed I keep feeling like we have just begun this journey and we can't wait to see what is around the bend. Will post birthday pics and pictures from her first big birthday party this weekend.

Super Sid

First it started with the hair, must match her jammies she said. Then the gloves and the customary cape. What we are left with is (drum roll please.....) SUPER SID.
Faster than an SLR Nikon camera. Can run through the house at incredible speeds searching for people to save from the monsters that might eat them.

Can jump higher than a really big bean bag chair.

Skeleton Sidney Hits The Town

It has been a very exciting Halloween week. Starting on Monday with gymnastics then a quick drive across town to the members only Halloween Party and the experimental farm. At gymnastics Sid had seen the older kids swinging on the rope and dropping into the foam pit last year and talked about all summer. This fall she asked her teacher if she could try it and since has had a turn on the rope swing every week and LOVES it. She is fearless!

When we arrived at the farm Sid wore her skeleton costume and shouted "BOO!" at every animal she could find. What surprised me was that she wore that mask for one and a half hours and did not want to take it off. What a trouper.
The museum hosted a Halloween parade and a scavenger hunt with lots of activities for the kids. It was really fun and an amazing perk to being a museum member.

Later in the week we had a day at home and practiced bobbing for apples. Sid had a lot of fun and it was a messy game!

After bobbing Sid gathered the dogs for dog school. She made a kibble scavenger hunt for them then called them all together for circle time. Check out the video. Groovy is at the top, Tasha in the middle and Maggie at the bottom. I just love the looks on the dogs faces when Sid asks them to clap with her. I don't know what happened with the quality but I think you will get the idea.

Here Sid is preforming with Daddy. She is finally getting comfortable in front of people and loves dancing, singing and preforming.



On Halloween we had ballet in the morning and Sid wore he skeleton costume with a tutu on it. I forgot my camera but Sharon took some pictures for us. It was really funny. Then we took off to the Sens vs Atlanta game. A client of Ken's has the most amazing season tickets and we were offered an opportunity to take in this game. The seats were so close to the ice and while Sid was mesmerized by the game last year, this year she started asking all kinds of questions. "why is there glass there? Why is there a net? Where do the hockey players go? Why do they jump over the boards? Where does Spartacat live when he isn't at the rink?" On and on it went and I did my best to answer them. It was a great game but sadly Ottawa lost but not from lack of effort!

After hockey we rushed home and met Daddy and we drove together to the cousins house for our annual Trick-or-Treating extravaganza! We had a great time with nice weather and no rain. Thanks once again for hosting Ann, Dirk and kids!
