It was a bitter sweet day as we entered the nursery school for our last time. Sid and her classmates closed out the 2008/2009 school year with a bash. First we were serenaded with 5 well practiced songs and then the kids got their construction paper mortar board hats and their diplomas.
The Graduates were treated to a pizza lunch, face painting, balloon animals and a bouncy castle. Sid made some very good friends this year and was crying as we left because she didn't want to say goodbye. At least being from a small town, the kids will see each other many more times over the summer at the parks, at soccer and festivals.
It has been pretty cold this week but we went out to the bog to see if we could spot any pond life. We didn't find any frogs, tadpoles or turtles yet, but Sid climbed her very first tree all by herself! When I was a kid, I remember climbing trees all the time, especially at the garden. Ken was a climber too so Sid has come by her climbing skills quite naturally.
This is the bog we used to ride our bikes to as kids. It was really neat being there with Sid and Nan Nan. I was probably about Sid's age the first time we went. After a light snack we wandered up the road to a geocache I had uploaded to my gps. It was Nan Nan's first cache and we found it and let Sid dig inside and retrieve a rubber duck to bring home.
The blog never feels complete without some Airedale update so this is a picture of Maggie in disguise. And a last picture of Sid and Maggs having a cuddle on the couch. You might be able to tell how patient our Maggie is.

I know, you can't tell what is in there but this is our Crabitat. Our special home for our 3 new friends who you can see here.....
These little guys are land hermit crabs and they are fascinating! They are nocturnal so we really don't see them often during the day. They have gills but cannot breath under water, they need a high humidity level and breath through the water in the air. They are scavengers and eat everything, and so far have really enjoyed apples, grapes, ham and bread as favorites. They love to climb and they chirp very quietly. Most importantly they are not solitary creatures, in the wild they live in colonies of 100 or more so they need to live in groups of threes as a minimum. They can live 70 years (gulp) but in captivity live up to about 15. The best part is they are very easy to take care of and they don't smell :0) The first evening they were here it was really cute to see Sid standing in front of the aquarium singing them lullabies before bed. She sang twinkle, twinkle and rock-a-by crabbies. I wish I had caught it on video! 
April 25 was so warm and beautiful, Groovy and Sid had fun together splashing in the dog pool. Mom and Dad started getting some yard work done but have tons left to take care of.
