Best Bog Walk EVER!

For all the times we have done this walk and seen nothing.... today was make up day!  We saw beaver(s), butterflies, bees, turtles, birds, ducks, ground hogs and bunnies.  The girls are much bigger and braver now on the far side of 6.  More adventurous than ever, they climbed, crawled and played the day away.  Mom and Magda restored ourselves with help from Mother Nature and good company!

This tree fell across a ravine and the girls saw it as a challenge that had to be conquered!  I crawled underneath to capture the adventure!

Picture above by Magda as I balanced precariously so my bum didn't get wet.

They can do it!  Another fab pic by Magda!
Lunch break on the boardwalk.  And while this looks like an evil radish... it is just a regular radish that must be eaten with fingers since the fork was forgotten at home!

Turtles wishing for sun to warm their shells.
Fun on the boardwalk watching for the beavers and turtles.
Photo credits above and below to Magda with her awesome new camera.   Oh if you could only hear the burst rate.....  Yes, I have serious camera envy now.

Something I have NEVER seen before.  The girls had run ahead and started calling to us that they had found a bee hive in a tree.  I suspected it was paper wasps but nope, it was a real active honey bee hive in the trunk of a tree.  So very Winnie the Pooh!  The drone of the bees was incredible as they zipped in and out of the tree.
A quick shot of a beaver as he/she swam by for the second time.  Nature was putting on a real show for us!

Roller Coaster Tree!
My tea and I trudging through the ravine.

After all that play, who wouldn't want a nap on the boardwalk.  The baby vampires are tired.

Thank you Magda and Mother Nature for the most restorative and lovely day!  Can't wait for the next one!

A Vacation and a Staycation!

Mom took off for a weekend of hockey and friends in Montreal. I won't get into the details but it was a very, very, very fun time.  Two of my regular defence and I were invited to play with a team we didn't know.  We did well with the hockey and had a great time with our new friends.  Lake Placid next year.... yeeeha!

Meanwhile back on the home front, Dad and Sid had an amazing weekend of fun, games, family and daddy daughter time.

Daddy planned ahead and filled his van with cardboard boxes and two rolls of packing tape.  Friday afternoon, Sid and Daddy created a castle which became the sleeping place for the weekend.  Here are a few pictures I had sent to me while I was away! :)

Daddy was such a trooper, he slept in the castle with Sid both nights and she slept better than she has in months!  He also took her out to her favourite candy store where he loaded her up with garbage can candy, fun dip and bubble gum.  She was really having a great time and not missing Mom at all.  Yay, more holidays for mom???? ;)
Saturday Sid was thrilled to bring Daddy to her 3 hour Karate class and he was a trooper.  After Karate they relaxed at home then took Grandmama out for supper.  Mmmmm delicious!

The weekend was a tremendous success for us all and we all feel energized from the change in our routines.  Now back to the big wind up to the karate tournament this weekend.  Here are a few videos of Sid's training this week.  Reece, in the first video, is a really good fighter and Sid's buddy.  If Sid can stand up with her, then she will do fine in the tournament against kids her age.  Enjoy!
