Spring Magic Tourney in Rockland

Anyone that truly knows Sid, knows how passionate she is about her martial arts.  This past week was the last chance to train for Sunday's tourney and Sid didn't miss a single day of training so she would be ready.  Most week nights she was at the club for two hours and Saturday was a four hour class.  Fighting and kata corrections were on the menu for the week and Sid welcomed the challenge.

We started tourney day with a champions breakfast!  Grapefruit, sausages, french toast and water melon! 

 We headed to the site in Rockland for 11 and shortly after that Granny and Grandpa arrived to watch Sid do her stuff.  It was so awesome having them there to cheer her on.  They got to meet Sigung and all Sid's karate friends and Sid was just sooooo proud!

 Sid and Reece were really revved up waiting for the competition to start and were sparring and stretching where ever they could find space.

The kids were practicing their Kata's and running a bit so Sigung stepped in and wrangled all the little kids in a group and gave his final lectures and touch ups. 

 The announcement was made and all kids 6 and under were to report to mat #1.  This was fantastic news to me, Reece is 7 so I was thrilled that Sid wouldn't have to compete against her.  It still meant that Sid would fight Brianne but at least she was only competing against one friend not two!

 Here all the white belt 6 and under kids sit and wait for their names to be called so they can preform their Kata.  There were 10 competitors in this division and Sid looked really at ease.

I love this picture (above)  Sid shocked the audience and Sigung was so proud of how loud and fierce she was while doing her intro.  She commanded every ones attention, especially the judges.

 I love how happy she is for her teammate Justin.  This was his first tourney and he took 4th in Kata

 Sid is awarded 1st.  Her score was 6.5, 6.6, 6.6!  After the white belts, they did kata's with the orange and yellow 6 and under and the closest score to hers was her friend Johnny with a 6.4, 6.4, 6.4.  One of the judges approached us after the competition and told me that Sid had incredible intensity and focus and she would go very far.  He said she did very, very well.  *proud, proud mama*
By winning first place, Sid was given the title Grand Champion and has been invited to compete at a special tournament next week.  If she finishes first at that tournament she will go to New Jersey to represent Canada!!!  Top three places are invited to next weeks tourney so she will have lots of Kajukenbo friends there and will also get to compete against Ashley again in point fighting!

Next was point fighting and there were 3 girls in the 6 and under division.  Once again Sid had to fight Ashley who beat her for first place at the last tournament.  Ashley is a lot bigger and does an overhand hammer fist on the top of the helmet to get points.  She won all her fights this way.  I was proud of Sid for scoring one point on her!  This week Sid is going to have to get Sigung to teach her how to defend and score on Ashley if she wants to beat her next week.

Ashley took first, Sid took Second and Brianne took third.

It was an amazing day.  We didn't have plans for next Saturday so I guess winning our way into the Grand Champion tourney will give us something fun to do.  Sid will have to train hard again this week to spiff up her fighting and I am sure Sigung will have lots of extra work for all the kids who placed 1st through 3rd.  Tonight we will go to the club with our trophies and see how the rest of the competition team did. 

These are some of the champs from Sunday.  We were missing Caleb, Sarah, Jay, Sara, Logan, little Johnny, Guillaume, Skylar, Cedirc, McKenzie, Meagan, Justin, Nathan and a few others who also placed in the top three in their divisions.   We have been told that Sigung will close the school next Saturday so he can coach the compitition team at the tournament.  Now back to work, the next tourney is only a few days away.
