Another Tourney!

Lots of excitement this past weekend.  We went to the 5th annual Martial Artist Tournament and it marked a year since Sid's first tourney.   We are all getting better at this.  We know what to expect and I don't get as nervous.  I still feel anxious for her but I don't shake as much.  Admittedly I cried this time... but it was out of pure happiness for the little one.  She bounces off the walls and cannot wait to get up there and show her stuff.
Warming up with her teammates.  Above you can see how high she can kick.  She can easily do the full splits and this is why it is helpful, particularly if you are short.
Reece and Sid stretch out and play on the mats to kill some time before the start of the day.
So cute but so lethal, look out!
Kata's were first as always but we had three very interesting judges who were all jujitsu black belts.  The martial artist open is open to all styles so it was weird not having a karate person to judge traditional kata's.  Sid's group of 7 seven year olds was first and they were the guinea pigs for learning how to judge.  It took FOREVER.  Almost an hour to get through the first group and the scores were so crazy.  We rolled with it and chalked it up to another chance to learn from the kids.  They were all smiling and playing together while the parents where losing their minds over the judging.  We took a page from their book and rolled with it.  By the time Reece's age group did Kata, the judges were a little more consistent and she scored well and took first place!
Next was point fighting and first up was Sidney versus this boy.  What?!  She is older now so she should be fighting girls.  I protested as did several other parents but the fight went on.  Sid held her own with this guy who was very good and went on to take first place in the 8 year old boys category.  She threw a beautiful spin kick and scored a point against him.  With some Sigung intervention, the point fighting was started over and Sid was lined up to fight with girls.
This girl was the biggest girl Sid ever competed against.  She was more than twice Sid's weight.  The advantage was she was s-l-o-w.
Sid was in with the punch to the torso to score her points.
Duck, weave and back in for a back fist, punch.  It was a great fight and amazing to watch Sid move around this girl.  The score ended up being 3 - 2 for the other girl but it gave Sid a second place!
It was a really well fought fight.  A sensei from another club came over and congratulated Sid on her style and told her to keep at it, she shows so much promise.  Reece fought in the 8 year old girl catagory and won 1st place!  She was doing awesome!
Last event was continuous sparring.  They fight for one full minute and whoever scores the most points wins.  Reece took third and Sid and this girl Isabell, fought for first.
Sid was amazing, she moved so quickly, got in got points and got out.  She had 13 points scored on her but scored 38 on Isabell!
This was her event of the day. Even her teammates were over the top excited for her.
Sid didn't know who won until they called Isabell up for her second place.  You can see the sparkle in Sid's eyes as she realized she took first.
Then it was a bee-line to the hardware!
Such pride and joy.  She has worked so hard, I got weepy for her when I saw her expression when she realized she won.  This was a big boost for her.  She is so little and gets tapped in the head and loses fights often but is now getting technique and using it to win.  Good job kiddo!
We were so happy for her and so proud of her and her teammates.  Once again the club represented itself very well.  Sid came home with a 1st in continuous and a 2nd in point fighting and Reece took 1st in kata, 1st in point fighting and 3rd in continuous.  Seriously, these girls mean business ;)
Here 19 of the 35 competitors from our club show off the 35 trophies they brought home.  What a weekend.  Next tourney in two weeks!!!
