December Adventures

Beautiful fluffy snow, time to go into the woods and snowshoe!  Lilly comes along because she is such a good girl on leash.

Back home, Sid and Lilly snuggle and read together.  It is a tight squeeze.

Ken calls it child labour, Sid calls it fun.  "Mom, mom, can we card and dye some wool today???"
Above on the left is washed white wool and on the right is the bag of unwashed wool.  Sid is picking the washed stuff in the middle before we dye it.  Picking it opens the fibers and gets rid of any remaining vegetation locked in the fibres.

Next we wet the wool and Sid dyes it.  We were going for yellow / gold for the bee hives on the mobiles

We have discovered that we can get a few different shades depending on how hot the water is and at what point we put the wool in.  The first batch came out golden and the second came out more yellow.  Perfect!!!

I blended the soft yellow with some white to create the colour I have called Butter.

This basket of picked fibre is called Bee Hive :)

Then we dyed some green to add to our play mats.  The above green fibre has not been picked.  It doesn't look like much but there is about 2 lbs of alpaca fibre there. We are both really having fun which is a good thing considering I have about 100lbs of alpaca fibre still waiting to be washed, dyed, picked and carded!

On December 1st Sid was invited to attend a really cool Pekiti Tirsia stick and knife fighting seminar held at the club.  The instructor was Madala Tuhon Philip Gelinas who is Sigung's friend and also a Grand Master in Kajukenbo.  He has the only other Kajukenbo club which is run out of Montreal.

Sid was invited so she could perform her Kung Fu / Chuan'Fa part of Kajukenbo for Grand Master but in the meantime he let her participate in the Kali stick fighting seminar.  So cool!

Here everyone stops so she can perform for Grand Master.  What an opportunity!

The Pekiti Tirsia group. 

Ken and Sid came out to a hockey game in Cornwall.  Ken got to play photographer and did a great job!

Now we are gearing up for Christmas.  We have been making presents for Hanukkah and preparing our Christmas gifts and cards for friends and family.  Next weekend will be tree trimming.  So busy but building traditions is so fun!
