Phew, Nationals for 2014 are over. It was an awe-inspiring weekend and a draining one. Sid competed in 5 events consisting of two rounds each over three days. The mental drain it takes on the athletes as they stay up late, get up early and wait anxiously for their turn to compete is intense. This is where you see all the training come together. It all has to come without thinking, it has to be second nature. Whether 8, 12 or 15, these kids are world class athletes and after a weekend like this past one, you can see why.

Chinese forms, there were 7 in the division. Day one, Sid did her form with Kiai's and scored in last place. This really surprised us because her form usually scores extremely well. Day two Sid did her form magnificently and pulled herself from last place to 3rd. The best news was that her Kaju sister, Caylie, took 4th so she is coming to Ireland too. Megan took 1st in her Chinese division so the kaju sisters are going abroad and their Kajukenbo mommas are going too.

Friday night was continuous. Sid is the reigning World Champion in -25kg and was ready to defend her title (lol - this totally cracks me up!) Above Sisuk helps warm her up.
Here Sid hangs with Lilly, her friend from Sault Ste-Marie. They see each other every year at the Nationals. They are only together a short time but they really enjoy each others company.
Sigung imparts his words of wisdom before the fight. Sid gets the message and goes and does her thing, she really loves continuous. Note that her friend Kalie is wearing a chest protector she was not hurt during the fight just a bit stunned. They were all still friends after.

What a rush, now it was some well deserved down time with friends.
Kaleb is a sweet kid from our club. He is the oldest of 4 and so great with Sid.

The kids warming up for the final round of point fighting. The first round was on Saturday, Sid won both her fights to take first place. Sunday they were seeded and Sid would have to win two more fights to secure a gold.
Watching Sid fight is a wee bit intense lol.
