Medieval Festival

This past weekend was the Medieval Festival. We went for the second year in a row but this was the first time we saw the jousting. It was AWESOME! Knights wearing 150lbs of armour perched on huge horses hurtling at each other with lances with the impact equal to hitting a wall at 70km per hour. Impressive!

Above are the three knights and the Dame who participated.  The Dame did not do the jousting but she and Athos played in the squire games and did very well.

In this game the knights had to spear the rings with the lance while charging down the field.  It was one point for ring captured with the possibility of 6 points.
 The Victor!
Next squire game was throwing a spear into a bulls eye while charging down the field.  Points were awarded depending on where the spear struck.
The last squire game involved hitting a small shield on a counterbalance.  Once struck the post would spin and the knight who attained the most revolutions would win the competition.  I believe 5 was the maximum number of rotations we saw, most got between 3 and 4.

Ohhh and now for the jousting.  These guys are seriously insane!  The pictures speak for themselves.

Points awarded for hits and the final score was 7 - 12 for Sir Kenneth!
For a donation of 5 dollars you could ride the horses with all proceeds going to their care.  Interestingly, most of the jousting horses are rescues!  Sid was first in line and got to ride Athos which was exactly what she was hoping for.  For more jousting you can check out the TV show Full Metal Jousting, all the horses except Athos and all the riders except for the dame are in the TV show.
There were plenty of other activities and games to explore and we spent about three hours there on this beautiful sunny Sunday.  We had so much fun and will go back again next year!
This weeks adventure is...... FISHING :)
