Already Mid-July!

The humidity keeps threatening to bring on severe thunderstorms but we have lucked out so far. We had a few pockets of rain but all they seemed to bring were gorgeous rainbows!  The temps have held strong in the high twenties bringing the ambient temps to close to forty with the humidity.  Loads of time in the pool and in the sun, we love it!

This past week, Sid did a week of pottery camp and LOVED it.  If given the choice she would choose pottery over drama next semester and the teacher has offered to hold a pottery class for homeschoolers.  Now to find a few more kids interested and we will be set to go!  Above is her week long project, a fairy log.  She hand painted it and then it was glazed.  It has to be double fired so it will be a couple of weeks before we get to pick up the finished project.

More new moths visiting this week and they were really spectacular.  This one above is a  sphinx moth 3 inches in diameter and similar to the hawk-eyed moth but bigger.

Next was the polyphemus moth.  This incredible moth caught my attention while I was sitting across the room watching TV.  It fluttered and landed on the screen and displayed its full 5.5 inch wing span!!!

The most interesting thing about this moth is that the yellow "eye marks" are actually holes in the wings.  Not sure how that effects the aerodynamics!

I am doing another photo challenge, this one is 31 pictures in 31 days with all kinds of different themes.  It is challenging to get decent pictures.  This one was "out my window"  and I caught the sunset through our beveled glass door.

This weekend was Dad's birthday and we celebrated in style!  We had big plans but the sunshine, intense heat and call of the pool kept us home and hanging out together.  It was one of the best weekends ever!

It was so nice just being at home with no commitments for a change.  We swam, Sid rode her quad, daddy did yard work, mom kept everyone fed.  It was a great weekend finished off with a campfire!!
